Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral from my physician to start PT? What is "direct access?"
Needing a referral depends completely on your insurance!
If you have Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan, you do need a referral from a medical doctor. That could be your primary care, gynecologist, urologist, oncologist, pediatrician, etc.
For Highmark and out-of network patients you can come to us through direct access. In Pennsylvania, direct access simply means you can contact and schedule an appointment with your Doctor of Physical Therapy without a referral from a physician. However, if you're pregnant and seeking internal work-a referral is preferred.

Do accept my insurance?
We are In-Network wit Medicare and Highmark and Out-of-Network with all other private insurances. We are a small, fee-for-service clinic and collect payment at the time of service.
We will submit claims on your behalf and we can provide an invoice upon request. We do not guarantee reimbursement and encourage patients to check with their insurance's out-of-network benefits prior to beginning treatment.

What is a superbill?
A superbill is a receipt of services provided. It will include details about Blossom Physical Therapy and Wellness as a provider, diagnosis (ICD-10 codes), details regarding treatment charges (CPT codes), and the date of service. Patients can then submit this superbill with a claims form to get directly reimbursed from their insurance company if eligible. We cannot guarantee if partial or full reimbursement will be provided since each plan is unique.

Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept all forms of payment, including flexible savings and health savings accounts. We are happy to work with all of our patients to determine their plan, including frequency of appointments, based on the your needs.

Are your sessions one-on-one?
Yes, absolutely! All of our sessions are one-on-one in a private space so you feel comfortable.

What will my first appointment be like?
Each patient is scheduled for a 60 minute one on one session with a physical therapist. The first visit will include a full intake of medical history and a physical therapy evaluation. Light exercises are often performed on the first visit. A personalized plan of care will be developed between you and your therapist, and you will receive exercises for homework.

What is internal work? Can I opt out?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is the assessment and treatment of muscles that make up your pelvic floor and for better assess the full scope of your diagnosis, we may perform an internal vaginal or rectal exam. Doing an internal examination is not a requirement for the therapy treatment although it is highly recommended. We will always work with you at your comfort level. And of course, you can opt-out from it.

Can I bring my baby to my appointment?
Absolutely! Childcare is not always feasible, and you deserve to be cared for! We encourage moms to bring in their child so that we can assess and educate in real time on proper lifting mechanics, postural alignment when carrying child, baby wearing, breastfeeding, mommy and me exercises etc.
We are well-prepared with extra diapers, and wipes, as well as a play mat and toys so the littles and bigs can hang out during our session.
